Building the capacity of our Latino community to self-advocate for more inclusive health policy at the local, state and national levels
Since 2011, our Health Equity Initiative has been organizing our Latino community to support the expansion of Oregon’s Medicaid program to cover immigrant pregnant women and children. In 2013, through statewide expansion of CAWEM Plus we secured prenatal care for all women in Oregon, regardless of immigration status. And, more recently, we led the nearly decade-long fight to pass Cover All Kids, which expands the Oregon Health Plan to all children, regardless of immigration status, under 19.
To support and sustain our health policy advocacy work, we recently developed our Latinx Leadership Movement, a training and development program for aspiring Latino leaders interested in becoming more involved in health policy advocacy and/or in running for public office.
