Oregon Latino Health Coalition (OLHC) is seeking a Climate and Health Equity Coordinator. The Climate and Health Equity Coordinator position is responsible for the design and implementation of the Mutualistas Community Engagement & Resiliency Building Project. Our primary goal with this initiative is to build power with frontline communities through outreach, education, and advocacy training so the Latine community in Oregon is better equipped to understand the connection between climate change and public health, address climate-related health disparities through policy, and fight for climate justice. This is a limited duration position who will oversee project development, implementation, and evaluation over a two-year project period.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of successful experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience working in non-profit sector, public health, public policy, environmental health, and or social sciences. Must have strong background in curriculum development and public policy.
  • Experience working with underserved populations, communities of color and or immigrant communities.
  • Must be bi-lingual (Spanish and English) in verbal, listening, and written communications, and have the ability to build effective relationships with diverse allies and constituents in both languages.
  • Bachelor’s degree required/preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the position. This position requires occasional in-state travel for the purpose(s) of meetings, community events, and conferences. Must possess a valid Driver’s license/CDL.

 

Job Duties:

Essential Duties 

  • Develop and conduct community assessment, including data gathering, analysis, and focus groups with Latine community members and climate and environmental justice partners.
  • Develop and implement the Mutualistas Project curriculum that addresses the intersection of change, public health, and policy and advocacy.
  • Identify priorities for a Latine Climate Change + Public Health legislative agenda. Promote opportunities for Latine engagement in the policy and legislative process.

Community Assessment and Engagement

  • Conduct community outreach and education on environmental justice issues such as extreme weather events and natural disasters, and access to emergency preparedness resources.
  • Design and implement Mutualistas curriculum to increase understanding on the public health impacts of climate change.
  • Develops and conducts workshops and trainings, and tailors information to specific community groups in the Latine community.
  • Recruit community members and facilitate focus groups on the overlap between public health, climate, and environmental issues.
  • Mobilize and engage community members for climate justice events and actions.
  • Develop a Latine community resilience framework to support mutual aid and sharing of collective resources on  public health impacts of climate change.
  • Organizes, prepares, and distributes information, educational materials, and training opportunities to community members and coalition members. Develop educational materials to share with community members via social media and other platforms regarding the overlap between climate change and public health
  • Develop metrics and evaluation methods to assess the impact of climate justice grant initiative.

Policy and Advocacy

  • Organize residents to identify climate and environmental health problems that affect them and work with policy makers and other stakeholders to address and prioritize those issues.
  • Collaborate with local government agencies on climate change priorities, recommendations, and policies.
  • Actively build partnerships and collaborations with community based organizations to advance
    health equity and climate justice policy and advocacy priorities.
  • Development of a public health policy agenda that clearly states our priorities for addressing the intersection of public health and climate change for the 2027 legislative sessions.
  • Participates in health equity and climate justice policy making and policy implementation discussions at the regional and statewide levels.
  • Take initiative on forging new partnerships and organizing work around public policy tables addressing climate justice.
  • Supports grant proposals, reports, and correspondence for funders and is responsible for their timely submission.
  • Supports budget planning and tracking.
  • Assists management team with program design, grant development, evaluation, and implementation of initiatives as needed.
  • Represents OLHC in the community and at events in a positive light.
  • Participates in monthly all-staff meetings and other events as assigned.
  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Respectfully takes direction from the Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION: Pay range for this role is $50,000-$55,000, depending on experience
